This is the second collage. This one works better compositionally than yesterday's, I think!
Recently I've been reading about collage art journalling, and I thought I might like to give it a try to add variety to my sketchbook. Right now the fastest and most efficient way for me to collage (in the limited time I have between bouts of writing my graphic novel) is to do digital collage. I'm using Corel Painter 12, which gives me endless media to work with. Here is the first collage:
I was interested in experimenting with using digital coloured pencils in a landscape drawing. For this drawing I began with a quick tonal sketch in 4B pencil, then laid in coloured pencil over the sketch:

I've been trying new ways of sketching characters, and found this method really helpful. The sketch is done in three stages – first a very simple “wire” rough-out to get proportion and posture correct, then I draw a manikin-style sketch over the wire sketch, then finish with sketching flesh and clothing. So far, so good!
