I felt the urge to sketch architecture over the weekend. My reference was a great shot taken while we were walking around Calton Hill in Edinburgh last June:

A quick-'n-dirty study of Mom's shamrock plant:

More sketches from video, this time a couple of chicka-dee-dee-dees:

I did this quick sketch of a coyote from video as well, but it moved too quickly to capture all of the details, so I paused it. Still, the sketch was done in about two minutes.

I did these quick sketches in conte while watching videos of sparrows. I had about 40 seconds (the length of each video clip) to do the sketches and include as much descriptive detail as possible:

Continuing on with my recent bird theme, here is a bluejay done in oil pastel, ink and pencil:

A quick sketch of a vesper sparrow:

Sad news today – our city lost Mardi, the Calgary Zoo's 22-year-old senior reticulated giraffe. Mardi suffered for a long time with progressive degenerative arthritis.
She was a beautiful girl, and subject for one of the sketches in my animal series:

A seal sunning itself on a buoy on the Firth of Forth:

Practice sketches of German Shepherds:
