While we were in Nova Scotia we went for a hike in Kejimkujik National Park, or “Keji” as the locals call it. The light was beautiful that day, illuminating forest that earlier had been drenched with rain.
As with traditional pastel paintings I've done in the past, I started with a toned surface to paint this digital piece. I chose a rich, darker blue to compliment all the warm colours in my subject matter:

Inktober, day 30. A brilliant blue sea and 10,000 year-old boulders at Peggy's Cove:

Inktober, day 29, and another opportunity to draw the fall foliage in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia:

The vivid colours of fall in Nova Scotia are perfect for saturated watercolour. This was one of the great views across Mahone Bay:

Something a little freer and simpler for Inktober, day 25:

I added colour to yesterday's drawing – definitely what was needed!

For Inktober, day 22 I drew the Economy Shoe Shop in Halifax. But I just can't resist adding colour to this attention-grabbing restaurant, so this will have to be part one of two...

Rather a gap since the last Inktober drawing, but I'm back at it again with this sketch from Peggy's Cove:

I'm heading on holidays for a couple of weeks, but will be back blogging on October 21.
My plan is to do some relaxed sketching and painting while travelling, and I'll be sharing that both on Twitter and on my blog when I return. If you'd like to see some of my works-in-progress while I'm away, please follow me on Twitter by clicking the link to the right.
Nova Scotia, here I come!
