More practice. I'm trying to get the bean shape to be more fluid and a little less awkward:

I've been continuing my figure drawing practice, and today worked on sketching the bean. The bean is a tool to simplify and understand the motion of the torso, as demonstrated by artist Stan Prokopenko. So far, I've filled four sketchbook pages, and I think I'm starting to understand how this works!

I decided to play with two of my favourite tools today: stencils and watercolour crayons. Just luxuriating in freeform shapes and colour in this journal page:

This is the best of my gesture drawings so far, as I was able to describe the postures fairly well with single lines. But I'm itching to move on to more detailed figure drawing!

My use of simpler lines seems to be improving. I'm trying to keep in mind that I'm limiting myself to c-curves, s-curves and straight but softened lines (i):

The thing I've found toughest about gesture drawings is using economy of lines instead of lots of hesitant, short strokes. This is what I've been practicing today:

I practiced more complex gestures today. My aim was to describe the general flow of the pose using economy of line. It's a work in progress, but practice is definitely helping!

I worked on sketching more poses today. Next for me will be practicing more complex gestural drawings that better describe the line and flow of the body.

Ah... I'm so much more productive when it's fifteen degrees cooler outside!
I've been practicing sketching all aspects of the human body, and today it was gestural sketching, focusing primarily on weight balance in a variety of postures:

I was practicing drawing more faces today, paying particular attention to proportions:
