There have been a lot of changes to the painting from mid-week to the finished piece.
I wanted to keep the focus on the lower half of the painting with it’s stronger shapes
and impasto texture, so I toned down the blue in the upper half, leaving the underlying
texture to tie in with the rest of the piece. I also softened the transition between the
upper and lower half by adding in a few deep, saturated blues and softer, lighter ochres
in the middle section.
Although the piece certainly has some saturated colour, which I love, it’s still primarily
a more subdued palette than I’m used to painting with, which was a great exercise in
colour restraint!
