The last-minute details are in, and I’m happy with the end results of the painting.
I glazed it yesterday, and this weekend I’ll do the framing. This painting has been a
good experience, and I’ve learned a lot from it, including to roll with unexpected
results and to trust my experience. All in all, it was a great project!

My work on the painting today involved lots of fine detail in the treeline,
adding more ochre, orange and green, and doing a bit of negative painting.

Today I spent some time working on developing visual interest in the sky, making it a bit more dynamic:

Today I concentrated on developing the mid and foreground in the painting,
laying in the base colours in the sand and tightening up the shapes, highlights and shadows along the
treeline. Here’s a detailed shot of my progress so far:

Today I got to work on painting the sky and the underpainting for the clouds.
I’ll be fine-tuning the gradation of blue and the delicate cloud shapes later,
but today was mainly about laying in colour on canvas:

Today my work on the painting focused on adjusting tonal values,
fixing shape placement, and tightening up the treeline:

The new painting is finally underway. To start, I applied an ochre underpainting that
will compliment the colour palette I intend to use. Next, I did some initial sketching
and blocked in shapes using a mixture of burnt umber and cobalt blue, plus white for
the lightest lights:
